Wayanad Travel Guide

Wayanad is located in the northeast part of Kerala. It is a new town that emerged recently in 1980. A place rich in flora and fauna, a large part of Wayanad is covered with coffee. The forest of Wayanad is covered with several species of wild type rosewood, artocarpus, caussia et cetera. The world’s longest venomous snake - King Cobra - is also found in Wayanad. It is home to several other species like jackals, bears, hares, loris, mongoose, jungle cats, squirrels et cetera.

Wayanad owes its 2126 square kilometer area to a number of beautiful tourist places amidst serene and cool nature. Some of the most beautiful places and tourist attractions are:

Shopping:

The natural beauty of Wayanad does not leave the tourists with only greenery and mountains everywhere but also provides a number of colorful and small markets around the city. The most widely sold items in the shopping centers in and around the city are the spices of Kerala. Handcrafted items and handloom products are also widely bought by the tourists. The handicrafts are mainly made of coconut shells, ivory, canes, wood and metals. Other items like garments, textiles, furniture et cetera are also available in good quality and at decent prices. Kathakali masks are also highly demanded by tourists coming from other parts of India.

How to reach Wayanad :

Travelling to Wayanad is not much of a problem because of its well-connected transport networks with different cities and towns of Kerala.

By Air: The nearest airport is in Kozhikode and is located at a distance of 100 kilometers from Wayanad.

By Rail: The nearest railway station is in Kozhikode and is located at a distance of 110 kilometers from Wayanad.

By Road: Wayanad has a wide and good network of roads and is therefore easily accessible from anywhere in Kerala and from other neighboring states. Bus services are available from different parts of the state 24 hours a day.
