Bundi Travel Guide

The historical city of Rajasthan – Bundi - is known for its beauty and glory that it offers through the various historical sites that are reminiscent of the glorious past of the city. The city is located at the foothills of a hill with a lake in the heart of the town. The fort in Bundi provides an awe-inspiring look of the city and the historical monuments that greet the eye with honour. Bundi has for years been one of the highlights of Rajasthan tourism primarily for its impressive medieval forts, palaces, havelis and temples. The city owes its name to a former ruler named Bundi Meena.

Places to see:

The city that has existed since 1193 has certainly something in store to tell the story of its existence. Bundi tells its story through various places and historical monuments that have today, become important tourist attractions on the Rajasthan tourism map. Some of these places are:
  • Taragarh
  • The Palace
  • 84 Pillared Cenotaphs
  • Menal
  • Ratan Daulat
  • Nawal Sagar
  • Rani-Ji-Ki-Baori
  • Phool Sagar
  • Shikar Burj
  • Sar Bagh
  • Jait Sagar Lake
  • Rameshwaram
  • Ramgarh
  • Keshavraipatam
  • Bijolia
  • Talwas
  • Dugari

Shopping:

The impressive and awe-inspiring beauty of Bundi does not offer much scope for shopping. The small shops in rural markets sell items like cotton carpets, miniature paintings, Kota saris, stone statues, wooden toys, lac bangles, and colorful shawls though. The markets are set in medieval style with decorations that are lyrical in creative expression.

Where to stay:

There are a number of hotels in Bundi that provide facilities for lodging. These hotels are equipped with modern facilities that make it easier for the tourists to adapt to its otherwise hot weather. Some of the major hotels had been mansions 150 years ago but have now been converted into hotels of great architectural beauty. Though they have been equipped with modern facilities, the ancient style of architecture and beauty of these luxury heritage hotels of Rajasthan haven’t been compromised. The hotels range from budget to luxury hotels with rooms that are equipped with some of the finest facilities and hospitality. We recommend:
  • Udai Vilas Palace
  • Laxmi Vilas Palace
  • Chandra Mahal Haveli
