Nagaur Travel Guide

Nagaur is a city in Rajasthan that was founded by Naga Kshatriyas. Boasting off its royalty, the city stands on a land between Jodhpur and Bikaner. Also known as the village “Khatwan”, Nagaur has been an administrative center of the Nagaur district. The land dates back to the 4th century and has been referred to in the Mahabharata. Though the city is not rich in flora and fauna, it is home to a number of plant species like babul, neem, and peepal.

Places to see:

Nagaur sets the beauty of Rajasthan with beautiful forts and magnificent palaces that reminds the people of the rich heritage that it pursued many centuries ago. It features the majestic Nagaur fort that is located at the tail of the Thar Desert, thereby giving a picturesque view of the city. The outstanding beauty of the fort stands out in the otherwise dull sandy stretch of the desert. The most interesting and fascinating beauty of Rajasthan is observed during the Nagaur Fair that is held each year and is the highlight of Fairs and Festival Tours of Rajasthan. Held during the month of February, the 4-day fair is witness to a number of people coming from different parts of the world. The fair features cock fights, camel races, puppet shows, folk dances and a host of other things. The evenings are mesmerized by the melodies of folk musicians.

Shopping:

Though Nagaur doesn’t provide many options for heavy shopping, the small shops in the city sell rare and beautiful curios that are typical to the tradition of Rajasthan. Other materials that one can shop for in Nagaur includes jewelry, traditional fabrics, wooden toys and other articles, gemstones, sculptures, and traditional Rajasthani bangles.

Where to stay:

The beauty of Nagaur is incomplete without the beautiful places that allow for accommodation. Some of the hotels in the city were palaces in the 3rd century. These palaces were later converted into heritage hotels without compromising their imperial grandeur. Today, they are labeled as one of the finest hotels that run under the aegis of fine hospitality centers. These hotels range from budget to luxury hotels with rooms that are equipped with world-class facilities to make the stay memorable and comfortable for the guests. Some of the luxury palace hotels at Nagaur we recommend are:

  • The Kuchaman Fort
  • Royal Safari Camp
  • Hotel Mahaveer International
