Shekhawati is a region that lies to the North of Jaipur. It is well known as a land where the businessmen of the Marwari class started building havelis or mansions during the 18th and the 19th century. The Rajputs and the Marwaris were the dominant and the two major communities in Shekhawati during that time. Owing to trade fights, the Marwaris were moved to the port but their love for the land never died and their descendants still live to represent the glory of the past. Known for its amazing architecture and incredible frescoes, Shekhawati Havelis have become icons of Rajasthan Arts.

Shekhawati is a colourful rainbow of a number of unique places. It greets the eye of the tourists with beautiful places and is famous for being known as an open gallery. Shekhawati means “the land of Shekha’s clan”. It was earlier a part of the Jaipur state and it today has become an epitome of art and a powerful history. Shekhawati is often known as an open-air gallery as it provides an amazing experience to those who have an eye for detail when it comes to art and paintings. The shopping areas in Shekhawati are famous for their excellence in handicrafts and pottery. The paintings of Shekhawati are very popular and can be used for decorating one’s home. The frescoes painted on paper and cloth are usually very nice. Excellent furniture can also be purchased from the shopping places in the city. Other items that can be purchased from here include decorated chests, carvings, cradles, textiles, tie-dye fabrics, metal wares, and traditional bangles.

By Rail: The nearest railway station is at Jaipur, with a number of trains connecting it to rest of India.

By Road: Buses and taxis ply from Shekhawati to other major attractions of Rajasthan 24 hours a day.
