Some of the indigenous animal species found exclusively in Ranthambore National Park include Asiatic Lions that can only be seen here. With hot summers, little rainfall, rocky outcrops and thorny shrubs, Ranthambore may seem inhospitable to tourists but it provides a safe haven to several animals who live in this ancient land. Ranthambore is situated uniquely to offer varied landscapes and ecological variations. The Aravalli Range, world's oldest mountain range, can be seen here. The unique geological feature known as Great Boundary Fault presents itself at the point where it meets Vindhyas and is worthy of note. The dry forest flora fades away to thorny vegetation in the northwestern region. About 80 mammals and about 300 birds live in the forests and grasslands of the wildlife reserve.
The wilderness travel experts at TNS are avid explorers and well versed with jungle photography tricks. They can lead you straight to sites and waterholes where you can see large predators, such as tigers and leopards, in their natural habitats. The alert movements of blackbucks, chinkaras, and sambar seem interesting and intriguing at the same time. Like all North India and Golden Triangle travel destinations, Ranthambore has historical significance too. It was once the hunting ground of the Maharajas of Jaipur and the royal hunting parties organized by the royal family to entertain high British officials were quite famous. The 10th century Ranthambore Fort and the Lord Ganesha Temple nearby might be in ruins but one can still imagine their former glory during the time of Chauhans.

North India travel experts from TNS will tell you about the strategic position of the Ranthambore Fort on North India and Central India trade routes and how it exchanged hands with the rise and downfall of major empires of India. The best time to visit the Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary is from October to April. Jeep and elephant safaris and luxury forest lodges and jungle resorts at the National Park are reminiscent of its imperial connections. We recommend elephant safaris to all those with an adventure streak as the gentle giants can take you to areas inaccessible by the vehicles. It also allows you to take closer look of the animals who prance near the legs of their huge friend without feeling threatened.
Tribals who live in and around Ranthambore also have interesting lifestyle and traditions that foreign tourists love to see. If you are into handicrafts and local crafts, you can find good bargains on cotton napkins, scarves and fabrics here that are hand dyed and embellished in native fashion. Luxury resorts also present beautiful and expensive jewellery with inlaid precious and semi-precious stones that you might want to buy. However, the Royal Bengal Tiger, hyenas, jackals, wild boars, sloth bears, macaques and elusive hares remain the main attraction of the amazing bio-diversity of Ranthambore. The closest town to Ranthambore is Sawai Madhopur that is easily accessible by road or train.
