Krishnagiri Travel Guide

'Krishna' means black and 'Giri' means hills. So, Krishnagiri actually derives its name from the granite hills in the area. This place is connected to other places via Government's Great Rectangle Project signifying the importance of the place. Beside cultural and traditional importance, Krishnagiri has historical importance as well. Krishnagiri is home to various rock paintings and rock carvings of Indus Valley Civilization and Iron Age.

The numerous temples in the area make it a destination for tourists and religious travellers. The Art and Culture tours in South India land you in Krishnagiri for a beautiful portrayal of homogeneity of culture, art and religion. Krishnagiri is also called the birthplace of mangoes. It is one the major producer of some of the finest mangoes in the country.

Shopping:

Krishnagiri is not known for its shopping centres or products. Although there are small mementoes made in stone and granite available to be bought. A walk along the shopping area can be a nice experience.

Apart from the exquisite artwork and amidst beautiful surroundings, it’s the fairs and festival of in the area that attract the tourists. The mango and the car festivals are the prominent festivals in the area. How to reach Krishnagiri:

By Air: The nearest airport is 40 km from Krishnagiri at Bangaluru. The airport is one of the better airports in the country and offers regular flights to almost all parts of the country.

By Rail: The railway station is at Hosur, 5 km from Krishnagiri. Trains to important places in the south ply regularly.

By Road: Best connectivity by road. Connected by Prime Minister's Golden Rectangle Project. Regular buses to Bangaluru, Chennai, etc. NH-7, NH-46, and NH-219 are the main National Highways connecting Krishnagiri to other important places.
