Namakkal is the headquarters of Namakkal district in Tamil Nadu. Namakkal is nearby Kolli hills, which are the most attractive destination in Namakkal district, known for medicinal herbs and plants. Cauvery River flows through the Namakkal district. Namakkal is also known as "Namagiri", which is the name of the rock formation at the centre of the town. Sri Namagiri Thayar temple, Lakshmi Narasimha's cave temple and Lord Hanuman temple are the three popular temples located around the Rock fort. Namakkal is well known for its poultry farms and its trucks. The bulk of poultry products are supplied to the all over India. The district is principally dependent on agriculture. Lakshmi Narasimha's cave temple is one of the main attractions of the town. Scene of Kolli Hills valley, few remote hills and ridges scattered over Namakkal, Rasipuram and Tiruchengode along with the valleys and undulating landscape constitute the distinctive physiography of this beautiful town. The 18 feet tall Hanuman statue carved out of a single stone at the Hanuman Temple is a major tourist attraction of Namakkal.

By Road: Transport in Namakkal is good due to the heavy industry of lorry bodybuilding and it is the prime poultry-farming district of the state. Namakkal is central in linking other important districts of Tamil Nadu via bus routes.
