Vrindavan Travel Guide
Vrindavan, situated in Uttar Pradesh on the bank of the Yamuna, is believed to be the place where the Hindu God Krishna had spent his childhood. It offers one of the best choices for pilgrimage tours of North India. The name ‘Vrindavan’ comes from ‘Vrinda’, which refers to the sacred tulsi (basil) plant that grew profusely around the place. Another legend says that the place got its name from Vrinda Devi, one of Krishna’s playmates. It is famously known as a place of Krishna worship. A number of devotees of Lord Krishna assemble in this place every year to take part in festivals based on the episodes of Krishna’s life on earth. It is said that Emperor Akbar was once taken blindfolded to a large garden in Vrindavan popularly known as Nidhiban, where he had a spiritual experience and subsequently recognized this place as a holy one. Madan Mohan, Jugal Kishore, Govind Deva and Gopinath are four temples built here to commemorate Akbar’s visit and his divine encounter.
