Taj Mahal

Grandiose Taj Mahal emerged out of endless love and loyalty of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan towards his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. Known as the greatest architect of his times, Shah Jahan had a strong liking for the refined and delicate white marble stone, as evident in other structures built by him. When it came to create the best mausoleum as a tribute to his beloved, white marble came as a natural choice for him. The Emperor hired only the finest architects and craftsmen in the world to create the perfect burial site of epic proportions. It is at the subterranean chamber underneath the main dome where the great King now lies together with his cherished wife forever.

Taj Mahal
Foreign tourists and celebrities from all corners of the world come to City Palace Jaipurshare the glory of Taj and get their pictures clicked in front of this mesmerizing monument. One of the Seven Wonders of the World, it seems to grow as you go closer to it until it gains gigantic proportions. Built on floating planks of wood on River Yamuna, the miracle of Taj becomes thousand-fold on a full-moon winter night. The glass-like marble walls reflect the color of the skies. Numerous photographs and picture postcards of Taj Mahal depict different moods and colors of the colossal love temple but no picture can ever the romance of the structure that moves loving couples and architecture enthusiasts alike.s

Construction work at Taj started in 1628 and it took more than 1000 men, working full-time for 22 years, to create such a masterpiece as Taj Mahal. It is believed that Shah Jahan himself monitored the site and gave precise directions to craftsmen to ensure that the true divine manifests itself in stone once it finishes. Verses from Quran inscribed on the walls, intricate motifs and lace carvings inlaid with precious and semi-precious stones, clever optical illusions, perfect symmetry, delicate minarets with cupolas on top on four sides of the dome, and highly polished marble walls - all add to the charm of this most celebrated and most beautiful building in the world.

An icon of Indian tourism industry and the spotlight of all North India and Golden Triangle tour packages, Taj Mahal is an imposing structure with a 100-feet high entrance arch and a 42-acre courtyard. There are several interesting legends attached to Taj. Some even believe that had Aurangzeb not imprisoned Shah Jahan, he would have built a black marble Taj Mahal identical to the white one on the other side of River Yamuna. A must-visit for every traveler to India – whether a vacation tourist, pleasure and leisure tourist, corporate executive client, business traveler, dignitary or celebrity – Taj manages to outshine all with its magical splendor.
